02/04/05 - JMI Honors Speaker of the House Allan G. Bense in Pensacola

February 4, 2005

A lively gathering of JMI members and friends enjoyed remarks from Speaker of the House Allan Bense on "Why I Am a Conservative."  The Speaker expressed his commitment to limited government, his support for term limits as well as his hope to reform the initiative process.  Pulling from his wallet JMI's "Seven Principles of Sound Policy," Speaker Bense shared his personal favorite, Principle #3: "Sound policy requires that we consider long-run effects and all people, not just short-term effects and a few people."  Other speakers at the event included JMI board member Susan Story and former board member Tom Sylte.
