03/30/05 - John Stossel Speaks in Fort Lauderdale

March 30, 2005

(This page is image-intensive and may take a few moments to load completely)

John Stossel, award-winning news correspondent and co-anchor of the ABC News show "20/20" spoke Wednesday, March 30, before an enthusiastic crowd of JMI members and guests at the Sheraton Yankee Trader Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.  The evening was sponsored by Gill Hotels and the Huizenga Family Foundation.

In his presentation, titled "Freedom and Its Enemies", Mr. Stossel discussed issues including pop culture controversies, censorship and increased government regulation. Using actuarial graphs to illustrate days off our lives by various means including acts of terrorism, automobile accidents and illness, Stossel reminded the audience that Americans are slowly giving away our freedoms in return for the prospect of safety.

Following the program, Mr. Stossel signed copies of his book Give Me A Break, just released in paperback.

JMI is pleased to have been able to host Stossel, a nationally-known journalist who shares our belief in the Constitution of the United States and in such timeless ideals as limited government, economic freedom and individual liberty coupled with individual responsibility.  We are grateful for the generous support of Gill Hotels and the Huizenga Family Foundation in making this event possible.
