It makes no attempt to aid or hinder the passage of legislation, nor does it accept government funds or respond to special pleadings from any sector.JMI seeks a Southwest Florida Development Director to add strength to its development team. The Director will help the Institute acquire more funding in an effort to provide more resources to advance the cause of liberty in one of the most dynamic states in the country. In terms of development, Southwest Florida represents one of the most enterprising areas of the state.This is a mid-level role with tremendous room for growth.Requirements:Candidates for the position of Southwest Florida Development Director should be able to demonstrate an understanding of public policy from a free-market perspective, with special emphasis on the issues facing the state of Florida. At least three years fundraising experience is ideal, but not necessarily required.Candidates should be expected to:

Be energetic in promoting the goals and views of The James Madison Institute (JMI) with a view to increasing its private funding.
Have the skills required to communicate clearly through the spoken and written word.
Have an entrepreneurial spirit and a self-starter attitude with the ability to drive projects to completion.
Be willing to travel on a regular basis and spend most of the time meeting with donors and prospects.

The Southwest Florida Development Director will also report to JMI’s Vice President of Advancement and communicate regularly with other staff and interns as appropriate.This position will be located in a home/virtual office, so the ideal candidate must be able to work independently as well as regularly interact with other JMI staff from a distance and deliver timely development reports back to JMI’s Vice President of Advancement.Responsibilities include:

Conducting meetings with donors and prospects in Southwest Florida, with particular emphasis in the areas of Naples, Fort Myers, and Sarasota, and all locales in between.
Overseeing the growth of regional boards of advisors in Naples and Sarasota.
Acquiring sponsorships for JMI’s Annual Dinner in Naples.
Organizing JMI’s annual breakfast in Sarasota as well as creating other such opportunities for donor gatherings.
Researching opportunities for new sources of support.
Managing the relationships with all donors and prospects in the Southwest Florida area.
Working with JMI’s donor database (Salesforce).
