10/13/00 – Would You Wan⁠t⁠ a Tra⁠i⁠n In Your Backyard?

The citizens of Florida will be faced with an issue on the ballot on November seven that has an almost stealthy quality about it. I am referring to the proposed amendment to the Constitution requiring the Legislature to approve the construction of a high-speed train between (or connecting) the five largest population areas. The amendment mandates the state create a train system that will cost billions to construct and much more to operate.
