Comprising approximately one-sixth of the U.S. economy, health care reform continues to represent a fundamental dilemma facing our country. Despite the implementation of “Obamacare” insurance rates continue to rise, innovation continues to suffer from overburdening regulation schemes, and health outcomes continue to stagnate.
Conservatives and free market-minded policymakers must move from positions of opposition (shouting what we are against) to positions of advocacy (educating on market-based policies we support). Florida can be, in many respects, a cornerstone of this movement. As Florida’s population continues to grow, our percentage of elderly residents will also expand (greater consumers of health care than other populations). Other states will look to Florida – as a success or a failure – in how we address the challenges of increasing access to care, serving our unique population demographics, and expanding competition.
