Former Speaker Paul Renner Joins JMI As Scholar in Residence
TALLAHASSEE – The James Madison Institute (JMI) is excited to announce the addition of former Florida Speaker of the House Paul Renner to our team as a Scholar in Residence. This position will be housed within The Durden Center for the Advancement of Liberty at JMI. Renner served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2022 to 2024, leading the historic 2023 “Session of the Century.” During his tenure, he championed the expansion of universal Education Savings Accounts, enacted transformative tort reform to stabilize property insurance, protected 500,000 public employees from being coerced into union membership, eliminated ESG scoring in Florida, and much more.
“Paul Renner’s time as Speaker revolutionized the Sunshine State. He is a principled leader whose fight for economic liberty and free-market advancements aligns with JMI’s mission. We are thrilled to have his wisdom and passion on our team.”
— Dr. Robert McClure, President and CEO
As the nation looks to Florida for guidance and strong policy examples, JMI stands ready to ensure that our state continues to be a shining beacon on the hill. Now more than ever, the successes we’ve seen in limited government and free enterprise can transform the country. Speaker Renner joins us to amplify those victories and help build solutions for Florida and beyond.
“JMI has stood for strong free-market values for over 35 years. Their consistent and dedicated influence is seen and felt in Florida and across the country. I look forward to this next chapter of helping Floridians prosper as a Scholar in Residence. We’re just getting started.”
— Former Speaker Paul Renner, 103rd Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives
