When you hear the words Think Tank, you might think of Washington D.C. But Florida has one of its own located in the state capitol. The James Madison Institute has been around for almost three decades. It is a non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Tallahassee. There are also offices in Orlando and Naples. JMI's President and CEO, Dr. Bob McClure says the organization works on policy and solutions to make Florida even better. We work with elected officials primarily to help them advance the policies they think are important for the state of Florida, McClure said, but we are a principal based organization, so we are focused on limited government, free enterprise, economic opportunity for everyone. Dr. McClure talked with News13 in a ONE on ONE interview. We don't deal with the second amendment, we don't deal with social issues, there are a lot of other organizations out there that do those kinds of things, but our focus is on economic freedom. The organization provides research on issues like healthcare, taxes and regulatory environment. We might produce policy research papers, they are all pier review, they are not a propaganda piece, they are all credibly well reviewed, McClure states. There are no candidate endorsements, but the elections are followed closely. I think what has happened in the presidential election with national politics, is that frustration has taken over ideolgy. McClure continues, I think there is this sense that it doesn't seem to matter who is in office in Washington, they are simply rearranging the deck chairs of the Titanic. JMI also accepts internships and citizen participation. For more information, you can go to their web site www.jamesmadison.org.
