By Peter Schorsch
November 5, 2014Rick Scott, one of the nation’s most vulnerable incumbents, narrowly won re-election Tuesday after turning back former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, who was trying to return to office as a Democrat. He edged Crist by a margin of 48 percent to 47 percent. It was the second time that Scott won a close election. Four years ago he defeated Democrat Alex Sink by more than 61,000 votes. Here is a compilation of reactions and statements to Gov. Scott’s re-election:The Republican Governors Association’s Chris Christie:
“Governor Rick Scott’s leadership in his first term brought Florida back from the brink, and with four more years to enact his low-tax, pro-jobs, pro-growth agenda, the Sunshine State’s future just gets brighter from here,” said RGA Chairman Chris Christie. “Governor Scott’s message in this campaign was one of true progress, and his victory is a testament to the real results he has achieved for Florida. The Republican Governors Association congratulates Governor Rick Scott on his re-election.”
Speaker Designate Steve Crisafulli:
“Tonight, in Florida and across the country, voters have sent a clear message. I am grateful they have given us a super majority of Republicans to the Florida House, continued a Republican Majority in the Florida Senate, maintained a strong Republican Cabinet, and re-elected Governor Scott. Over the past four years, Governor Scott’s willingness to make tough choices has reversed the losses we saw under Charlie Crist, leading to a recovering economy, job creation and a record number of visitors to our great state.  I look forward to working with the Governor to continue making Florida the best state in the nation.”
Incoming Majority Leader Dana Young:
“I congratulate Governor Scott, and Republicans across our state, on another well-deserved victory this election. Over the last four years, Governor Scott and the Republican-led Legislature have worked together to create jobs, improve our education system, cut taxes for hard-working families, and get Florida’s economy headed back in the right direction. Florida voters recognized these successes and have confidence that our state will continue to prosper following our conservative principles.”
Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association:
“Florida families made the right decision to re-elect Governor Rick Scott. He is a true champion for our state’s tourism and hospitality industry which plays a vital role in job creation and economic development,” said Carol Dover, President and CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. “On behalf of our more than 10,000 members representing hoteliers, restaurateurs and suppliers, we are thrilled to congratulate Governor Scott on a well-deserved win and will continue to work under his leadership to ensure we provide our millions of visitors with a world-class experience.”
The James Madison Institute:

“Across the nation, and here in Florida, voters expressed that their top issue of concern was economic opportunity and the future direction of the country. The overall results of this midterm election show that people are beginning to understand the problem with promoting bigger government as the ultimate solution to the issues facing Florida and our nation. Public policies that promote economic freedom allow Florida to flourish. Voters want to live in a state where opportunities and options abound, where jobs are plentiful, and where they have the resources available to achieve their dreams.
Last night, Sunshine State voters once again put their trust in Gov. Rick Scott and Florida’s Cabinet to ensure that our state remains dedicated to these principles now, and in the future. Congratulations to Gov. Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, and Commissioner of Agricultural Adam Putnam on their re-election, as well as to Florida’s Congressional Delegation and those in the Florida Legislature from both parties that won their races. We look forward to working with these leaders. It’s time now to set our sights on bigger, more challenging goals that secure a prosperous future for the people of Florida.”
Florida TaxWatch:

“As the 2015 Legislative Session is approaching, Florida TaxWatch continues to research policy recommendations and cost savings opportunities for Florida taxpayers. We look forward to sharing these recommendations to improve accountability, transparency and efficiency in Florida government with each of the state’s lawmakers, including several newly elected public servants.
“Florida TaxWatch will continue to work with Governor Scott, CFO Atwater, General Bondi and Commissioner Putnam, and the members of the Florida Legislature, and our statewide partners to make smart investments in Florida’s future through education programs, restructuring criminal justice sentencing, economic development and growth initiatives and improved health care options for Floridians.”

NFIB:

“Tuesday was a big day for small businesses in Florida,” said NFIB/Florida Executive Director Bill Herrle, the state’s leading small-business association. “Governor Scott has made tremendous strides to improve Florida’s economy and the business climate during his first four years in office. He not only supports the issues that matter to our members, but his leadership on small business priorities has been undeniable.“Our members were huge stakeholders in this race,” Herrle continued. “The fate and success of their small businesses often lies in how they’re treated by our state government. We look to four more years of working with the most pro-small business governor in the nation. Let’s get back to work!”
