Statement from The James Madison Institute on Passage of Occupational Licensing Reform

For several years, JMI has worked tirelessly alongside many stakeholders to help shed light on occupational licensing policy – an area in which our regulatory environment needed substantial improvement. Our licensing scheme in Florida has been extraordinarily burdensome and onerous to Floridians trying to gain employment, start a business, and move up the economic ladder.

Today, the Florida Legislature changed that.

With the final passage of the Occupational Freedom and Opportunity Ac, the Legislature sends to Governor DeSantis a policy reform that charts a bold new course for occupational licensing. We thank House Speaker Oliva, Senate President Galvano, as well as the key sponsors Chair Blaise Ingoglia and Senator Ben Albritton for their tireless efforts in bringing this much needed reform to Florida. On behalf of the tens of thousands of employees, small business leaders, and future entrepreneurs who will positively benefit from this reform, thank you and we look forward to Governor DeSantis’ signature.
