William A. “Bill” Dunn, founder and chairman emeritus of DUNN Capital Management, Inc., a successful investment firm headquartered in Stuart, Florida, passed away on April 1, 2025 at the age of 90.
Dunn was a long-time valued member of The James Madison Institute Board of Directors for many years.
Bill earned a BS in engineering physics from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Northwestern University. He conducted operations research and systems analysis for the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Department of Defense.
After starting his own company in 1974, he has spent his time managing future portfolios for his clients.
In 1994, Dunn saw the need to limit the power of government and he established Dunn’s Foundation for the Advancement of Right Thinking to advocate for the classical liberal ideas of individual liberty, free markets, and the rule of law. The foundation changed its name to the Dunn Foundation in 2016.
“Bill and Rebecca have been tireless advocates for a free society, a staunch defender of liberty, and a protector of the Constitution. He lived his life with a commitment to the principles that have made our country what it is today,” said JMI President and CEO Dr. Robert McClure.
Dunn is survived by his wife Rebecca, a tireless supporter and one of the longest tenured board members in JMI’s history; daughters Liz Dunn, Chris Dunn Valencia, and Virginia Dunn Kerr; along with many friends and clients that have been inspired by his devotion to free market ideals.
