The James Madison Institute Releases New Policy Brief on Data Centers
TALLAHASSEE – As America’s digital economy continues to expand, data centers have become critical infrastructure supporting everything from artificial intelligence and cloud computing to remote work and streaming services. However, this rapid growth has brought with it rising concerns about energy use, regulatory pushback, and infrastructure strain. In a new policy brief, “Digital Foundations: The Essential Guide to Data Centers and Their Growth,” The James Madison Institute explores the economic importance of data centers, the energy challenges they pose, and policy choices lawmakers must consider to ensure balanced and sustainable development.
“Data centers are the digital highways of the 21st century, powering everything from our critical financial and healthcare systems to artificial intelligence,” observed JMI Policy Analyst Turner Loesel. “As a necessity for a modern economy, states that modernize regulations to attract this investment will accelerate economic growth and create high-paying jobs while protecting consumers from higher energy bills.”
